Dental implants refer to a cosmetic dentistry procedure used to replace missing teeth. Dr. Roe surgically places metal frames or posts directly into the jawbone below your gum to hold prosthetic teeth. This prosthetic tooth naturally blends in with your other teeth.
Because these posts are primarily made out titanium — a material that your body recognizes as familiar — your jaw bone can quickly absorb it rather than rejecting it as a foreign object.
The prosthetic tooth doesn’t put the strain on or rely on neighboring teeth for support like traditional bridges or dentures would. The goal of a dental implant procedure is to place prosthetic teeth that not only fill the gaps, but that also feel real and restore your chewing abilities.
There are many reasons why you might consider a dental implant or why Dr. Roe might recommend one.
You should speak to Dr. Roe about dental implants if you experience any of the following:
After evaluating your overall health, dental history, and jaw bone density in the affected area, Dr. Roe can recommend a treatment option that restores your smile and eliminates your discomfort.
You should think of dental implants as both a root and tooth replacement.
During the procedure, Dr. Roe extracts the damaged tooth and prepares your jaw bone for surgery. He might need to transplant bone tissue from other parts of your mouth if your jaw bone density isn’t strong enough to accommodate the metal posts. This process is called bone grafting.
Once your jaw bone is ready for surgery, Dr. Roe places the metal root implant. You’ll need to allow time for your jaw bone to heal before proceeding. Dr. Roe then places the abutment that holds the prosthetic tooth and creates your replacement tooth.
After the replacement tooth is created, he places it in the affected area. As your mouth heals, it produces more bone around the implant, securing it in its place.
Dental implants might be the solution you’ve been waiting for to fill unwanted gaps and get rid of any lingering discomfort. Get in touch with Dr. Roe today by phone or online to book an appointment.
